When smoke alarms fail it is most often because of missing, disconnected or dead batteries. Portable Generator Hazards
According to the "Portable Generator Safety" document of the United States Fire Administration (USFA), 228 carbon monoxide poisoning deaths were associated with portable generators from 1990 to 2003 in the U.S. The number of reported carbon monoxide poisoning deaths doubled between 2001 and 2003. These statistics illustrate that generators can be hazardous if not properly used and maintained.
